Possible topics for graduate theses

In our research group we offer various topics for bachelor's and master's theses in the following fields:

ALICE:

  • Analysis of data from the ALICE experiment
    • Particle production in proton-proton, proton-lead and lead-lead collisions
    • Bound states of heavy quarks as thermometers
    • Absorption of jets in the quark gluon plasma
    • Photons from the quark gluon plasma
  • Simulation of particle collisions for comparison with experimental data

CBM:

  • Characterisation of the (detector) system with laboratory and test beam measurements
  • Development of methods to process and analyse the running data flow ("feature extraction")
  • Physics simulations of the production of hyperons and hypernuclei in the CBM experiment
  • Analysis of simulated data with Machine Learning methods

  • Didactic concepts for teaching nuclear and particle physics in schools

Note: In graduate theses you will be involved in the current research of the respective field. Hence, the exact topic will always depend on which questions need further investigation at the moment.
