Doctoral student Berit Schlüter from the Institute of Nuclear Physics spent several weeks at the South Pole, the coldest place on earth. In a guest article, she provides insight into her daily routine and the installation of the “IceCube” upgrade for neutrino research.
No evidence of the existence of ‘sterile neutrinos’
The international KATRIN collaboration with Prof. Christian Weinheimer and his team from the Institute of Nuclear Physics has used its precision data to verify evidence of sterile neutrinos. It was able to clearly reject the positive results of other measurements that pointed to the existence of this hypothetical type of neutrino – a result so important for this research area that it has now been published in Nature.
Astroseminar gibt Einblicke in die Physik des Kosmos
Unter dem Titel „Von Science Fiction zur Realität: Die Physik des Kosmos“ findet am 17. und 18. Oktober das Astroseminar 2025 an der Universität Münster statt. Es richtet sich an Schülerinnen und Schüler, Studierende aller Fachbereiche und an alle anderen Interessierten. Außerdem gibt es ein Kinderprogramm.
