    Internationalisation
Coming to Münster or spending time abroad as a master's student? We offer a broad variety of  scholarships for incomings and outgoings.
Outgoings can also have a look at the faculty website [de] for further international programmes (Erasmus, Promos). Furthermore the Fachschaft Mathematik und Informatik [de] (students representatives) regularly gives information about the possibilities for spending a semester abroad.

  • PhD Researchers

Doing your doctoral studies at Mathematics Münster

Benefit from the stimulating atmosphere at the department and use the invaluable opportunity to learn from staff and visitors, collaborate and network.

The Mathematics Münster Graduate School offers an outstanding research profile and excellent scientific training for doctoral researchers in a variety of mathematical fields that strengthens opportunities for future career success. Professorial supervision will ensure steady and focused development of the candidates's professional expertise and personal goals. A mentor also encourages transparent and open progress review. In addition, the opportunity to attend  a range of seminars, lectures and events broaden the horizon regarding neighbouring mathematical fields.
MMGS researchers profit from the amenities of the Cluster of Excellence, including receiving funding for conference travel or summer schools, opportunities to co-organise academic events and participation in numerous networking opportunities and events.

Application rounds for doctoral positions will be announced in spring and autumn each year on our website.

If you plan to do your doctoral studies with one of the groups at the department, why not apply for one of our Ada Lovelace Fellowships for excellent doctoral students? If you succeed you will be funded for 3 years with a 25% salary raise.

Research stays at Münster or going abroad during your doctoral studies? Find more on our opportunities for research stays for doctoral researchers.

Mathematics Münster wants to support their early career researchers not only in their scientific competence but also on a personal level. Find all offers of the Early Career Support here.

You will also benefit from the University of Münster services: courses on soft skills, career development and individual consultation are offered for example by the Münster Centre for Emerging Researchers (CERes).

  • Postdocs

    Postdoctoral research at Mathematics Münster

Establish your research profile in our stimulating research environment, amongst internationally renowned scientists, and benefit from the career development opportunities designed to foster your scientific independence.

Postdocs are a vital part of our research community, for example as investigators within the Cluster and organisers of international conferences. They profit from the amenities of the Cluster of Excellence, including receiving funding for hosting guest researchers, not only for short collaborations but also for longer stays within our Young Research Fellow programme. Financial support is also given for conference travel and attandance at summer schools. Postdocs are encouraged to organise academic events, for example as part of the Young Mathematicians Conference Network (YMCN), and to participate in networking opportunities and soft skill workshops.

Postdoc Mentoring is part of the Mathematics Münster Postdoc Programme. It provides guidance in the Postdoc's academic endeavours by a mentor chosen among the professors of the mathematical institutes. Mentor and Postdoc should jointly reflect on the academic development with regard to competencies for the respective career goal and further steps.

    Young Research Groups
Collaborate for four years as a Young Research Group of two or three postdocs working together on a joint research project relevant to the focus areas of Mathematics Münster. Group members are expected to apply individually for the postdoc positions and hand in a joint letter of motivation.

Application: Applications for postdoctoral positions and Young Research Groups are accepted each year in autumn. Calls are published on our website.

Mathematics Münster wants to support their early career researchers not only in their scientific competence but also on a personal level. Find all offers of the Early Career Support here.

Mobility & International Interaction

Mathematics Münster is an international research hub. We foster scientific exchange amongst researchers from all over the world at all career stages – from master’s students to professors.

We encourage our researchers to invite guests to Münster for collaborations and joint publications. For intensive cooperation Münster Research Fellows and Young Research Fellows have the opportunity to stay in Münster for several months. We also support our researchers as they take part in international conferences, visit cooperation partners, and go abroad for longer research stays.

With the short-term and  full grant scholarships for Master's students we provide opportunities for international students to experience Mathematics Münster.
