Master of Arts - Empirische und Angewandte Sprachwissenschaft (EAS) Website (EAS) EAS is an interdisciplinary Master's programme in linguistics. The English Department offers several modules within this programme. All matters concerning application and administration lie with the Institute of Linguistics. Combining M.Ed. and M.A. Programmes
The English Department offers the opportunity to study both the M.Ed. programme and one of our Master of Arts programmes at the same time. If students take classes that are open to both programmes, credit will be transferred, giving you the opportunity to complete two programmes in less time than it would usually take.
However, note that these programmes come with different sets of admission requirements and that you will have to apply for both programmes separately.
Information on how to apply for the M.Ed. programme are available on the websites of the Students Admissions Office and on the website of the Student Advice and Counselling Centre (check for “Zugangs- und Zulassungsordnung”).
Please be aware that students interested in enrolling in an M.Ed. programme need to have completed one of the German BA programmes for future teachers.
Information on how to aply for the BAPS, the NTS or the EAS programme are available on the respective websites.
Please note that students interested in enrolling in either our BAPS or NTS programme need to submit an English language certificate even if they received their BA degree with Münster University.Transferring to Münster for the M.Ed. Programme
Students currently enrolled in a B.A. program at another university may be interested in transferring to Münster for their M.Ed. While we are always happy to welcome new students, we strongly recommend that those studying English elsewhere consider transferring during their B.A. program, rather than waiting until after graduation. Students from other universities who enroll into our M.Ed. programmes usually have to make up a significant amount of credit points to meet the criteria for teacher training (Referendariat) as the different universities’ programmes are not compatible. This is likely to extend the duration of their studies.
While students who transfer during their B.A. might also need to take additional classes, this is generally less extensive and easier to manage at the B.A. level.
Experience has shown that students who transfer to Münster for their M.Ed., especially those who take advantage of the late enrollment policy, will encounter difficulties in accessing some of the university’s essential services and platforms. These include: email and web access, course and exam registration, the Learnweb platform, and the student library card, all of which are important for academic success. Please consider these obstacles when planning a possible transfer to Münster.
PhD
We offer two kinds of PhD study:
A) Traditional individual doctorate (Individualpromotion):
pursuit of a doctoral research project under professorial supervision,
but without integration into the larger structures of a graduate school
B) Structured doctorate (strukturierte Promotion):
pursuit of a doctoral research project under professorial supervision,
plus integration into the larger structures of a graduate schoolWe have two interdisciplinary graduate schools that also accept candidates with projects in the field of English Studies:
• Graduate School Practices of Literature
• Graduate School of Empirical and Applied Linguistics.Further information on these different kinds of PhD study can be found here:
