Mathematik Münster

Prof. Dr. Mikaela Iacobelli (ETH Zürich) will give a talk entitled "Challenges and Breakthroughs in the Mathematics of Plasmas" at the Colloquium Wilhelm Killing on 11 December 2025. The talk takes place at 2:15 pm in lecture hall M4. Tea time starts at 3:15 pm in the Cluster Common Room.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Thom (TU Dresden) will give the talk at this year's Hirzebruch Colloquium on 18 December 2025. He will explain how topological methods can be applied to solve equations over groups and also mention some recent advances in the study of identities for finite and infinite groups. The talk takes place at 2:15 pm in lecture hall M4.

Due to a large number of common mathematical interests in very diverse fields of mathematics, we decided to introduce a themed meeting bringing together researchers from the two institutions in related areas. The main objective is to get an idea about research interests and projects in each others' department (specifically at the PhD and postdoc level) and to provide a forum for future collaborations.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together young European-based researchers under the broad umbrella of geometric structures. We aim to provide a place for interaction and sharing of research ideas across a range of disciplines: these include Spin geometry, special holonomy, almost Hermitian geometry, hypercomplex geometry, or Kähler and complex algebraic geometry and related topics.

Das Rektorat der Universität Münster hat die besten Doktorarbeiten des Jahres 2025 ausgezeichnet. 122 Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftler erhielten für ihre Dissertation das bestmögliche Prädikat "summa cum laude" - darunter Dr. Lennart Machill, Dr. Bastian Müller, Dr. Simone Ramello, Dr. Konstantin Recke und Dr. Spyridon Petrakos, die ihre Promotion am Exzellenzcluster Mathematik Münster absolviert haben. Dr. Grigorios Kopsacheilis wurde darüber hinaus mit dem mit 3.500 Euro dotierten Disserationspreis ausgezeichnet. Sein Thema war "Regularity properties of C*-diagonal pairs and topological dynamics". The new holders of the full grant scholarships for excellent international master’s students have arrived: Zauri Bokelavadze, Adéla Heroudková, and Srijan Saha started their studies at the University of Münster in October 2025.

We welcome Dr Karol Bołbotowski as a new Young Research Fellow at our cluster. He has recently been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics and works in the field of calculus of variations, focusing on the optimal design of mechanical structures. During his stay until mid-December he will collaborate with Benedikt Wirth and his group.
