New cohort of international Master's scholars has begun their studies

We are delighted to welcome our newest scholarship recipients, Zauri Bokelavadze, Adéla Heroudková, and Srijan Saha, who have joined the University of Münster as international master's students. They commenced their studies in October and are being supported by full-grant scholarships provided by the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster.
The new scholars were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Martin Hils, Study Coordinator for the master's programme, Dr. Bianca Santoro, Mentor for international master's students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, and the Cluster's spokespersons, Prof. Dr. Thomas Nikolaus and Prof. Dr. Mario Ohlberger.
In the following statements, Zauri, Adéla, and Srijan share their reasons for choosing Münster, their research interests, and their aspirations for their time at the university.

"I completed my bachelor’s studies at Kutaisi International University in Georgia, where I wrote my bachelor thesis in algebraic topology under the supervision of Professor Irakli Patchkoria. My primary mathematical interests lie in algebra and topology, and the University of Münster is one of the best universities to further deepen my knowledge in these areas.
It is also very important that the Mathematics Department at Münster offers scholarships for international students, as this support greatly facilitates academic development.
Additionally, the city of Münster provides a very pleasant living environment, making it an ideal place to continue my academic journey."

"I completed my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. My main mathematical interests lie in algebra, number theory, and category theory. I appreciate the wide range of courses offered in Münster, as there are many areas of mathematics I have not yet encountered and might discover an interest in. I am currently very much enjoying my Algebraic Geometry and Topology III courses, where I am learning about scheme theory and simplicial sets. I also look forward to learning from professors who are leading experts in their fields and to building valuable connections within the mathematical community.
Since arriving, I’ve enjoyed how large, welcoming, and diverse the mathematics community is. I learn something new every day - not only from my professors, but also from my classmates. Outside of university, I’ve been enjoying Münster’s cycling paths and its relaxed atmosphere."

"I completed my bachelor’s at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, where I developed an interest in Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes. Through self-study, projects, and seminars, I explored topics from Percolation Theory to Gaussian processes, which sparked my fascination with the theoretical side of stochastic phenomena.
That is how I came to know about the University of Münster - through the department’s remarkable alignment with my future research interests. I am already pursuing this path, engaging deeply with advanced topics and research initiatives here. At Münster, I look forward to further deepening my knowledge in Probability Theory, while broadening my foundation in areas like Applied Analysis, Differential Geometry, and Functional Analysis - essential tools for modern probability. I also aim to contribute to the academic community through collaboration and teaching initiatives.
Beyond academics, Münster offers a vibrant, welcoming environment, from the Aasee lake to its cafés. The professors are really helpful, passionate and dedicated to their work. The peers are also very supportive and friendly which has been indispensable in my experience here. Receiving this scholarship motivates me to continue on this path and contribute meaningfully to the field of modern Probability Theory, as well as enjoying my time in Münster and Europe."

Scholarship programmes at Mathematics Münster The MM scholarship programme is intended to make the master's programme even more attractive to students from abroad. To this end, we make full-time scholarships and short-term funding available for outstanding international master's students. In addition, there is a support programme for German master's students looking to spend time studying abroad. Through these measures, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster are promoting the international exchange of especially talented students and increasing the visibility and reputation of Münster as a hot spot for mathematics.
