Open Call: Mathematics Münster Short Term Scholarships

Secure your scholarship and visit Mathematics Münster for several months!

With this call we invite applications until 15 May 2024 for up to four Mathematics Münster Short-term Scholarships for projects starting before January 2025. The Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster is offering scholarships for interested master's students in their 2nd year to visit Mathematics Münster for a period of 2 to 6 months.

In this programme students will have the opportunity to prepare their master's thesis or a related research project under the mentorship of one of the several distinguished researchers in several different areas of mathematics, in a friendly and stimulating environment.

WHO CAN APPLY?
The Programme is aimed at mathematics master's students who have already completed at least one year in their home institution. In view of the international mobility goals of this initiative, applicants are only eligible if they have not spent more than twelve months within the last three years in Germany.

FUNDING
The scholarship funds research stays in preparation of the master's thesis, or a related research project for a period of two to six months.

Funds may cover: a monthly payment of up to €850, semester fees and travel allowance, depending on the country of origin and other potential sources of funding. The amount of each scholarship is decided by the Masters Scholarships Selection Committee. The executive board of Mathematics Münster takes the final funding decision.

CONDITIONS AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
The stay promotes international mobility, cooperation and networks as well as the intercultural competence of the student, i.e., the student has not lived or carried out her/his main activity in Germany for more than 12 months in the last three years prior to the application deadline. The applicant must be enrolled as a master student for the whole duration of the fellowship. A proficient knowledge of English (B2) is required.

Applications should contain:

  • a statement of purpose, containing a project description or study plan, including the desired starting date and duration of the stay,
  • your curriculum vitae (in English),
  • academic transcript of records and copies of degree certificates,
  • a description of advanced math classes already taken by the student (in English) and
  • a detailed plan of the necessary financial support.

SELECTION
Applicants will be selected by the Masters Scholarships Selection Committee based on criteria of academic excellence, motivation, and adequacy of the research project to the M.Sc. Mathematics Münster programme at the University of Münster, and will be assigned a supervisor.
