We are writing to inform you that ScienceDirect (but not Scopus) will be
unavailable for a planned period of downtime on Sunday, March 11, 2007 for
approximately 7 hours starting at 01:00 AM EST (06:00 AM GMT).This is to adjust
the system to take account the change to Daylight Savings Time in the United
States. We hope that by providing this advance we can help to minimise any
inconvenience to you and to your ScienceDirect users.

We understand that this news, coming as it does on top of recent operating
difficulties, will be particularly unwelcome. Two weeks ago ScienceDirect and
Scopus planned alarge-scale rebuilding exercise on some core underlying
technologiesof the systems. In order for this upgrade to be implemented a
necessary downtime was scheduled on February 24th. Unfortunately an unexpected
problem occurred during the upgrade, and this required us to schedule a second
upgrade session for Saturday March 3rd – resulting in another period of
downtime.

While it appeared we had a successful release some of our customers have been
experiencing unforeseen difficulties in accessing ScienceDirect and Scopus since
then. We apologise again to those customers who have had their access affected
by these difficulties. Our technical team is working around the clock to restore
the performance and reliability of ScienceDirect and Scopus for all our
customers.
