Future English teachers need to go to an English speaking country to fulfil the legal requirements for teacher training:

Für Lehramtsstudierende gilt § 11 Abs. 10 LABG: „Das Studium moderner Fremdsprachen umfasst mindestens einen Auslandsaufenthalt von drei Monaten Dauer in einem Land, in dem die studierte Sprache als Landessprache gesprochen wird; Hochschulen können im Einzelfall eine Ausnahme vom Auslandsaufenthalt zulassen, wenn eine in der Person der oder des Studierenden oder in der Person nächster Angehöriger begründete schwerwiegende Mobilitätseinschränkung vorliegt und die Ausnahmegenehmigung dokumentiert wird.“ https://bass.schul-welt.de/9767.htm [de]

This stay abroad in an English-speaking country can be realised in various ways, e.g. as a

study abroad (e.g. at a university or a language school) or
work abroad (internship, assistant teaching, Au Pair, work&travel etc.)
pre-university stay abroad (e.g. high school exchange, gap year, etc.)
or any type of stay abroad that you plan and organize yourself. It is recommended (but not required) to pursue an activity related to your studies.

To prove the duration and location of your stay abroad, you will have to submit sufficient documentation (boarding cards, high school diploma, letters of recommendation, etc.) and keep this documentation on file until completion of your teacher training (Referendariat).
