The Applied Mathematics: Institute for Analysis and Numerics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a
Doctoral Research Associate
Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/ Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
(part-time 75%, salary level TV-L E 13)
at the earliest possible date. The position is available for the duration of three years and the successful candidate is expected to commence in summer 2021. Currently, the regular working time in Germany for full-time (100%) employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.
The position is in Prof André Schlichting's research group and focuses on mathematical research in the dynamics of complex systems. Towards this goal, methods of partial differential equations and stochastic analysis are combined and optionally complemented by numerical analysis. The research will be suitable for a PhD thesis topic. The successful candidate will benefit from the stimulating environment and facilities of the Cluster of Excellence "Mathematics Münster: Dynamics – Geometry – Structure".
Requirement profile:
- a master's degree in mathematics (or a comparable degree)
- good skills in at least two of the fields of partial differential equations, stochastic analysis, calculus of variations, or general dynamical systems
- interest in the rigorous mathematical analysis of dynamics of complex systems, basic knowledge of optimal transport, large deviations or interacting particle systems and some programming skills would be welcomed
- ability to work independently and in a team
- a high level of motivation and enjoyment in scientific work
- good English communication skills
- German language skills are not a requirement but a willingness to learn would be desirable
