Stellenausschreibung

The Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of

Assistant Professor
in Biosphere-Atmosphere Exchange Processes.
(salary level W1, full-time, tenure track)

This professorship is part of a tenure track program funded by the University of Münster. The position is to be filled as soon as possible. A performance evaluation will take place after 3 and 6 years. Pending a favorable evaluation, the position will be converted into a permanent W2 position.

We are looking for an inspiring and motivated candidate with an international reputation to represent the field of biosphere-atmosphere exchange processes at the Institute for Landscape Ecology (ILÖK) in research and teaching. A major research focus must be on biosphere-atmosphere exchange processes at the Iandscape scale, linking micro-meteorological field measurements and process-based modeling with related disciplines such as vegetation and soil ecology, hydrology, biogeochemistry, climatology, remote sensing, and biodiversity research to quantify gaseous fluxes of ecosystems. The successful applicant shall study the effects of changing climate and land cover on gaseous ecosystem fluxes of water, carbon and nitrogen with a particular focus on greenhouse gases. Interest and experience in applied fields of global change research, agriculture, forestry, nature conservation, or ecosystem restoration are highly welcome. Applied methods must comprise up-to-date techniques in micro-meteorology and related data processing, and candidates should have strong skills in field measurements, process-based modelling, and statistics. The successful candidate is expected to teach in BSc and MSc programs in landscape ecology (environmental sciences) and in associated BSc programs (geography, geoinformatics). Proficiency in written and spoken German is not a prerequisite, but the candidate is expected to achieve a sufficient command of German within the first two years.

Prerequisites for the application are a doctoral degree, proven international excellence in the field, and an age-appropriate publication record.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities. The application must include a CV, a publication Iist, transcripts, a Iist of successful funding applications, and research and teaching statements. Please also provide the names and email addresses of at least two academic referees. Applications must be received by 30 June 2020 and should be sent to the Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences (address below). Questions or requests for further information should be directed to Prof Norbert Hölzel (nhoelzel@uni-muenster.de).
