Stellenausschreibung

The Institute of Applied Physics at the University of Münster, Germany is now offering a three-year position for a

Postdoctoral Research Associate
(salary level E13 TV-L 100%)

The regular working hours are currently 39 hours 50 minutes a week and the teaching obligation is 4 hours per week. All posts can, as a rule, also be filled as part-time positions if there are no compelling work-related reasons against doing so.

The position involves undertaking basic and application-oriented scientific and technological research on nonlinear optics (second- up to seventh-order effects) for temporal and spatial four-wave mixing for frequency and mode conversion as well as chemically selective nonlinear microscopy.

Candidates are expected to show the potential for building-up a research sub-group within the Optical Technologies Group, including independent research, project applications to relevant funding institutions within national and international frameworks, teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, and development of new teaching formats. They should have already demonstrated the capacity to execute the proposed research and to publish the accompanying results in respected journals. Candidates are expected to have the interest and capability to successfully undertake a Habilitation during the period of employment. In the case of a fruitful collaboration, i.e. after the completion of corresponding milestones, a permanent position could be offered from mid-2023.

Requirements for the position are:

  • A doctorate in physics, electrical engineering or a comparable subject area, preferably followed by a postdoctoral stay abroad
  • Proven knowledge and experience, as far as possible, on all following topics: generation and characterization of ultrashort laser pulses, experimental and theoretical nonlinear optics, and numerical modeling of the propagation of ultrashort laser pulses in scattering or structured nonlinear media
  • A well above-average willingness to perform and outstanding skills in relation to working independently, problem-solving and presenting results
  • Experience in project management, technical guidance and personnel management of employees, as well as securing third-party funding
  • A strong research profile in the relevant areas and according ideas for innovative applications for third-party funding
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required, as well as the timely acquisition of the German language for teaching in the Bachelor's program

We offer:

  • Integration into a supportive team in the interdisciplinary research field of modern nonlinear optics and laser physics
  • Extensive modern laboratory equipment and access to high-performance grid and parallel computing facilities
  • Close cooperation with the MESA+- Institute of the University of Twente (Enschede, NL) and the Cluster of Excellence CiM, as well as other national and international partners from academia and industry
  • A stimulating environment with a high degree of independence and long-term perspective
