Ada Lovelace Fellowships

The aims of the Ada Lovelace programme are to attract outstanding mathematics graduates to pursue a doctorate and contribute to gender equality in mathematics.

The programme was launched by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in 2016. It is named after Augusta Ada Byron King (1815-1852), Countess of Lovelace, a British mathematician working in the then emerging field of computer science (for more information, read Wikipedia ).

Meet our current and former Ada Lovelace Fellows

Who can apply?

Fellowships must supplement a doctoral position, and applications should be combined with the application for a 75 % doctoral research associate position at Mathematics Münster. Fellowship applications will also be accepted from current members of the Mathematics Münster Graduate School, who accepted an offer for a doctoral research associate position (max. 75%) after the previous Ada Lovelace selection or who are receiving a scholarship for their doctoral studies and started their doctorate after the previous Ada Lovelace selection.

The University of Münster strongly supports equal opportunity and diversity. We welcome all applicants regardless of sex, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion or worldview, disability, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. We are committed to creating family-friendly working conditions. We actively encourage applications by women. Women with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered unless these are outweighed by reasons which necessitate the selection of another candidate.

What is funded?

Ada Lovelace Fellows benefit from a 25% supplement to their doctoral position (salary increase).

What are the selection criteria?

The selection of the fellows by the Committee on Young Scientists (AfWiN) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science is based on the academic performance and grades which have been achieved in the bachelor's and master's studies.

How to apply?

Calls for applications for Ada Lovelace Fellowships are published simultaneously (spring and autumn) with the call for doctoral researcher positions on our website under Calls and on the job platforms of the EMS and the AMS (mathjobs.org).
