VPN

You need a VPN connection, if you need access to services that are only available in the university network, and you yourself are currently not directly in the university network, e.g. because you aspire to work from home. (There is an alternative to the VPN connection, see underneath.)

The necessary software and instructions for the setup of a VPN connection are shown on the following website of the WWU IT:

Virtual Private Network

VPN via Cisco-Client or PPTP

At the moment there also is the possibility to establish a VPN connection via the PPTP, that is already integrated in many operating systems, or via an older Cisco-Client. In that way, the installation of a specific VPN software is not necessary. The corresponding instructions are on the following website of the WWU IT:

Alternative to VPN Access:

Should you have problems with setting up the VPN or work on a foreign device, on which you cannot establish a VPN connection due to the lack of administrative rights, it is instead often possible to use the access terminal server of the WWU IT. For this open the remote desktop connection and connect to the server rd.wwu.de. As this PC is in the university network, you can use all protected offers from here. You can in particular connect to our terminal server NWZcitrix by opening Internet Explorer, going to the website https://nwzcitrix.nwz.wwu.de and if necessary accept the the execution of the corresponding add-on.
