Registration open: "Introduction to the administration of computers in the IVV"

In the winter term the lecture series "Administration of Computers in the IVV Naturwissenschaften" shall take place again.

You will find the selection of event topics in Learnweb.

You can register online until October 18, 2026, for some or all of the topics.

Please note that you first have to enroll in the course in the Learnweb and then register for the individual topics via the so-called feedback.

The enrollment in the course alone, without answering the feedback for topic selection, is not sufficient. Enrolled-only students are NOT counted as participants (see below)!

The topics will be selected based on demand beginning October 19, at which time the exact dates for the individual topics will be fixed. If a minimum number of 5 participants is not reached for a topic, this topic will be skipped for this semester's course. In that case, registered participants will be informed of the cancellation by e-mail.

Please register only for the topics you are actually interested in.

The event will take place during the semester (starting October 22, 2025) at ComputerLab 745 in the Institute for Solid State Theory, Building IG 1, Wilhelm-Klemm-Str. 10 on Thursdays from 10:15am to 12pm.

DNASTAR Lasergene Workshop November 17/18, 2026 - Registration is open

DNASTAR - Lasergene Workshop

DNASTAR offers software solutions for molecular biology, protein analysis, and genomics.

In this workshop, attendees will be presented with an overview of the applications within the Lasergene suite. The instructors will use the latest software version, Lasergene 19, and demonstration data from real experiments to provide tutorials for various workflows, including: cloning and primer design, Sanger sequence alignment, multiple sequence alignment, protein analyses, and next generation sequence assembly and analysis. Q&A to follow.

The workshop will take place online via Zoom on Tuesday, November 17, and Wednesday, November 18, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. You may attend on just one of the two days; the content will differ on each day. Further information, including a detailed Agenda and the registration can be found on Learnweb; registration is mandatory.

The number of available spots is limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes on November 15, 2026.

IVV Naturwissenschaften provides a Site License of DNASTAR Lasergene, that can be utilized on each and every computer (Mac or Windows) incl. Apps.nwz.wwu.de. Additionally all students and faculty may install the current version of DNASTAR Lasergene on their private devices for study and research, as DNASTAR Lasergene software is provided on the NWZ@Home program.

nwzCitrix is now Apps

As the final step in the Scientific Cloud (SC) migration to SCIT, the "Citrix" terminal server has also been moved.

It is accessible at apps.nwz.wwu.de since the beginning of the year, and all apps and most desktops have been migrated from nwzCitrix to the new apps platform. All users were notified of the migration when accessing nwzcitrix.nwz.wwu.de.

As of March 31, 2026, the old apps and desktops at nwzcitrix.nwz.wwu.de are no longer available, and on April 22, 2026, the old platform was permanently shut down and deleted.
