ChemDraw, Mathematica, Origin - multi-part events as part of the IVV Colloquium in January/February/March 2026

We are planning a Chemdraw seminar, a Mathematica and an Origin workshop for the winter term 2025/26:

Introduction to Chemdraw and Chem3D
"ChemDraw Prime is a software package for creating and editing chemical structures and reaction paths. The ChemDraw Professional Suite contains additional features such as Chem3D Professional for visualizing and adapting 3D structures as well as a variety of tools for working with biological reaction paths. A special highlight of ChemDraw Professional is the Struct=Name function, which converts IUPAC names to structures and vice versa.

Mathematica workshop
Mathematica is a fully integrated system for technical calculations, 2D and 3D visualization, modeling, and simulation, from initial concept to final solution. Mathematica offers users an almost infinite variety of mathematical functions for solving problems in engineering, finance and actuarial science, life sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and, of course, all other natural sciences.
In addition to numerical calculations, Mathematica can also work with algebraic formulas. Algebraic and analytical operations have been implemented in Mathematica, including integration, differentiation, and polynomial calculations.

Origin for Beginners and Advanced Users
Origin is a Windows software for data analysis and presentation. OriginPro also provides advanced analysis tools for statistics, 3D fitting, image and signal processing. The flexible import filters make your data available in Origin. Custom graph types can be added to the numerous graph templates. You can export your finished graphs directly to MS-Powerpoint® or save them in popular graph formats. All processes can be automated. The ability to save entire evaluation processes as templates significantly increases your efficiency.

A detailed overview of topics is available on the Learnweb: https://www.uni-muenster.de/LearnWeb/learnweb2/course/section.php?id=1274949&lang=en

You can register for one or all of these courses on Learnweb now and until January 4, 2026, choosing the dates that suit you best: https://www.uni-muenster.de/LearnWeb/learnweb2/course/section.php?id=1321379&lang=en

We will then plan the dates, formats, and language that suit most participants.

Fri 12/12/2025: Short disruption to home, group, and other directories

Due to operating system updates, access to home, group, and other directories will be briefly interrupted this friday after 8 p.m.

We expect there to be only one or two short interruptions per file server cluster.

Registration for "Praktikum zur Rechneradministration in der IVV Naturwissenschaft" is open

In view of the various challenges regarding the security and confidentiality of data and the operational security of the entire computer network, this practical course supplements the lectures "Einführung in die Administration von Rechnern" with practical components. In particular, the university services and their use in conjunction with the "NWZ" Active Directory will be discussed.

The hands-on training will take place the week of February 23 - 27, 2026.

The courses take place in the NWZ ComputerLab W410 in the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Building ACPC2, Corrensstr. 28 and start at 9:15 am. A lunch break is scheduled from 12 - 2 pm, the event will not last longer than 5 pm. The topics in the blocks Installation/Software Distribution and Security are based on each other, knowledge from the lecture "Einführung in die Administration von Rechnern in der IVV Naturwissenschaften" is encouraged, but not required. Registration is mandatory.
Enrollment to the Learnweb course is not sufficient, you have also to answer the Feedback Registration for the Individual Topics.

Registration is open until February 1.

Please register only for the topics in which you actually want to participate.

Origin 2026 Home Use

The new version 2026 of Origin Pro is now also available for "Home Use". You can download it for installation from Home > Services > NWZ@home > Software > Origin.

Please use this installation source solely to install Origin on a private computer. The software will not work with the network license on NWZ computers provided by your IT administrator. Information on this can be found in the Windows News.

NWZ operation in the period from December 22, 2025, to January 5, 2026

During this period (December 22, 2025, to January 5, 2026), only “unattended operation” will take place in IVV Naturwissenschaften for NWZ and all connected systems.

The availability of employees to respond to inquiries will be limited during this period due to public holidays and vacations. The hotline will accept inquiries by email and via the answering machine. Measures that are not urgent will not be initiated until January 6, 2026.

Support will be reduced starting on December 16, 2025, and this will continue until January 8, 2026.

IVV Naturwissenschaften wishes all users a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
