Application for guest accounts

Guests of a workgroup or institute of the Departments of Biology, Chemistry/Pharmacy and Physics as well as the institutes for Mineralogy and Planetology from the Geosciences Department can apply for an account for the university online. Once the account has been set up, group leaders can grant the account access to the respective project groups.

A guest account cannot be granted

• if the account is courtesy account, i.e. no research or teaching activity is associated with the account.
• if an account must be denied for sanction reasons.
• for doctoral students who do not wish to enroll at the university.
• for retired university professors. There is an extra group y0hslir for them.

• Applying for a new guest account

  Apply for a new user account in IT-Portal

  Please follow this link to apply for a new user account online in IT portal.
  
  You must provide personal information at least in the form fields marked with *:

  • Gender
  • Given name
  • Surname
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth

  You must also provide your contact data and residential address at least in the form fields marked with *:

  Apply for membership in one of the guest groups

  If you already have an account at the university, you can apply for membership of one of the guest groups in the IT portal.
  
  To do this, select the corresponding group as described in the next step. In this case, the form may look slightly different in the following steps.

  Then choose an initial password with which you can unlock the account, if it is granted to you. Please note the instructions for selecting the initial password at the bottom of the screen.

  To protect against bots that try to steal an account automatically, you still have to enter the result for a simple arithmetic problem as confirmation.

  You will also receive a confirmation of receipt by email to the address provided. You will also be notified by email of the approval or rejection of your request.

  

Transfer existing account to guest status

If employment or student status at the university ends, but the account and access to research and teaching resources are still needed for further work, you can apply for membership in a guest group via the IT portal before your employee or student status expires.

  As long as your account is still active, you can request the membership in the myNWZ-IT portal yourself.

  Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to the section titled “New group memberships you can apply for.” Select the appropriate guest group from the list; in the example screenshot, it is the group p0gast:

  Request (extension of) membership in the group

  "Fachbereiche 11, 12, 13 Ivv-4-Naturwissenschaften" is already preselected as the only group leader who will be notified to approve the request.

  In the “Short note for the group leader and IT” field, specify which department you will continue to visit and click “Submit the request now and send it to the group leader for approval.”

  

  Application for Membership has been noted

  You will see a confirmation message stating that your request has been received.

  You will also receive a confirmation of receipt by email to the address provided. You will also be notified by email of the approval or rejection of your request.

  

Tips for the Host

As soon as the guest has received the account, you can enter them into the desired project group of your division in the Münster Identity and Access (MIA) Management Tool .

Special access rights for the work group, e.g., the group directory, are only granted after registration in a corresponding project group. These changes become effective the following night.

Extension of guest accounts

The account expires at the time specified by the host.

This expiration date applies both to the guest group and to all other groups in which the account may have been additionally entered. Even if the other groups may have a later expiration date.

Email Notification Regarding the Expiration of the Guest Account

Six weeks before expiration, notification will be sent by email to the Uni-Muenster address. Starting at that time, you can request a renewal on the myNWZ IT portal, as long as the account is not expired.
