New Münster Research Fellow: Astrid an Huef

© MM/vl

We welcome Prof. Dr. Astrid an Huef as a new Münster Research Fellow at our Cluster. She is a German-born New Zealand mathematician who holds a professorship at Victoria University of Wellington. Until 2017, she held the Chair of Pure Mathematics at the University of Otago. An Huef is a functional analyst who specialises in operator algebras that impinge on other areas of modern mathematics such as dynamics, graph theory, number theory and harmonic analysis.

She studies operator algebras associated to dynamical systems of groups acting on spaces or algebras, and to combinatorial structures such as directed graphs, and groups and groupoids. The broad idea is to see properties of the operator algebra reflected in the underlying structure. Prof. an Huef was the president of the New Zealand Mathematical Society for the 2016/2017 term. In 2019, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

During her stay at our Cluster, she will intensify her collaborations with Wilhelm Winter.
