The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) have published two joint calls to support German–Brazilian research projects.

In September, Cíntia Toth, Director of the Brazil Centre’s Liaison Office in São Paulo, welcomed Prof. Dr. Philip Bockholt from the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Münster in Brazil.

We are very pleased to welcome Prof. Daniel Villela from the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz, Brazil) to the University of Münster. His research stay takes place within the framework of the Brazil Chair Program, funded by the Brazilian research agency CAPES.

Brazilian Seminars is an international summer school developed by PUC-Rio, which will take place again in July 2026. This interdisciplinary summer programme, which includes numerous lectures and even language courses, gives participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Brazil and gain a nuanced understanding of various topics in the Brazilian context.

On 23 June 2025, the big moment had come: the Brazil Centre celebrated its 15th anniversary – a significant milestone in the history of the cooperation between Brazil and Münster. At the festively decorated Alexander von Humboldt House, members, friends, as well as Prof. Dr. Ursula Neles, former Rector of the University of Münster, and Dr. Ricardo Schuch, former Managing Director of the Brazil Centre, gathered to reflect on joint achievements and open up new perspectives.

On 20 and 21 August 2025, the Faculty of Law at the University of São Paulo welcomed professors from the University of Münster for the second edition of their joint workshops, this time held in Brazil.

As part of the SPRINT funding programme from FAPESP (São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration), the University of Münster is once again participating in a call for proposals to co-finance mobility projects between researchers from the University of Münster and the state of São Paulo.

The Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced a joint call for proposals to select up to 10 basic research projects from German research institutions in collaboration with Brazilian ones.

In October 2025, the consortium of German universities will hold two editions of the Postdoc in Germany workshop in Brazil’s Northeast: in Fortaleza (21/10) and Recife (23/10). Organised by the German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH) São Paulo and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the events target early-career researchers who are in the final years of their PhD or who completed their doctorate no more than four years ago and wish to conduct research in Germany.

The Brazilian Embassy in Berlin invites to the 5th Meeting of the Brazilian Diaspora for Science and Innovation on 17 October 2025.

From 13 to 18 July 2025, the University of Münster – represented by Cíntia Toth, Head of the Brazil Centre and the Liaison Office São Paulo, and Dr. Anne Vortkamp from the REACH – Euregio Start-up Center – took part in the 77th Annual Meeting of the Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC) in Recife.

On 19 November 2024, the new Interdisciplinary Center for Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Disease Dynamics (IMMIDD) was officially founded at the University of Münster.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers doctoral candidates at Brazilian universities the opportunity to carry out a funded research stay of two to six months at a university or non-university research institution in Germany.

Prof. Dr. Ana Larissa Oliveira (FALE/UFMG) is organising an interdisciplinary academic event and publishing the book Digital Language, Gender and Democracy in Brazil as part of her research activities as a CAPES Brazil Chair at the University of Münster.

Dr. Anne Vortkamp, member of the scouting team of the REACH - EUREGIO Start-up Center at the University of Münster and Münster University of Applied Sciences and founder of the start-up CARAPAX biotechnologies, was nominated by the Brazil Center of the University of Münster and selected as one of two speakers from Germany for the traditional round table of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) São Paulo.

The student’s association of the School of Business and Economics at the University of Münster has awarded its annual Teaching Prize to lecturers who have made outstanding contributions to teaching.

Since June 2025, Cíntia Toth Gonçalves is the head of the Liaison Office of the Brazil Centre at the University of Münster in São Paulo. In this role, she serves as the main contact point for individuals in Brazil interested in academic collaboration or pursuing studies at the University of Münster.
 

On 23 June 2025 at 3:15 p.m., the University of Münster will celebrate an impressive milestone in German-Brazilian scientific cooperation: the Brazil Centre will mark its 15th anniversary with a celebratory event at the Alexander von Humboldt-House.

The 24th FAPESP Week took place on 25 and 26 March at Freie Universität Berlin. The event was organised by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in cooperation with the German Research Foundation (DFG). The University of Münster was successfully represented at the event.

For over a decade, the Brazil Centre at the University of Münster has been organising and participating in informational events for Brazilian students and researchers interested in pursuing postdoctoral stays in Germany. More recently, these activities have been expanded to cover other countries in South America.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Münster invites interested medical students and young professionals to participate in the Münster-Med-Summer-School 2025. The two-week program will take place from 4 to 15 August 2025, offering participants from all over the world the opportunity to experience innovative teaching methods, interactive workshops, and current medical research.

The winning team of the German-Brazilian EdTech Hackathon 2024, which took first place with the Green Seed project - now called Leko - travelled to Germany to get to know German universities and their innovation facilities.

It is with great consternation and profound sadness that the Brazil Centre announces the death of its esteemed member and cherished friend, Professor Matias de Oliveira Pinto, professor of cello at the Faculty of Music of the University of Münster.

Ana Larissa Oliveira, an outstanding professor at the Faculty of Humanities at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), is the new holder of the Brazil Chair at the University of Münster, which this year will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Julia Metag at the Department of Communication (IfK).
