During the first week of December, the Brazil Centre of the University of Münster carried out a series of activities in Rio de Janeiro, strengthening partnerships and expanding academic collaboration.
 

In October, the Brazil Centre of the University of Münster took part in a roadshow organised by the German Centre for Research and Innovation São Paulo (DWIH-SP) at two important universities in Northeast Brazil: the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) in Fortaleza and the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in Recife.
 

In the historic centre of Münster, three Brazilian researchers from leading research institutions met at Münster’s Christmas market: Prof. Dr José Carlos Vaz, University of São Paulo (USP); Prof. Dr Ana Larissa Marciotto Oliveira, Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG); and Prof. Dr Daniel Villela, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).

The Brazil Chair is a key initiative for fostering academic cooperation between the University of Münster and Brazilian renowned institutions. Funded by CAPES (Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education), the call is open for applications until the 12 February 2026.

The Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) have published two joint calls to support German–Brazilian research projects.

In September, Cíntia Toth, Director of the Brazil Centre’s Liaison Office in São Paulo, welcomed Prof. Dr. Philip Bockholt from the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Münster in Brazil.

We are very pleased to welcome Prof. Daniel Villela from the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz, Brazil) to the University of Münster. His research stay takes place within the framework of the Brazil Chair Program, funded by the Brazilian research agency CAPES.

Brazilian Seminars is an international summer school developed by PUC-Rio, which will take place again in July 2026. This interdisciplinary summer programme, which includes numerous lectures and even language courses, gives participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Brazil and gain a nuanced understanding of various topics in the Brazilian context.

On 23 June 2025, the big moment had come: the Brazil Centre celebrated its 15th anniversary – a significant milestone in the history of the cooperation between Brazil and Münster. At the festively decorated Alexander von Humboldt House, members, friends, as well as Prof. Dr. Ursula Neles, former Rector of the University of Münster, and Dr. Ricardo Schuch, former Managing Director of the Brazil Centre, gathered to reflect on joint achievements and open up new perspectives.

On 20 and 21 August 2025, the Faculty of Law at the University of São Paulo welcomed professors from the University of Münster for the second edition of their joint workshops, this time held in Brazil.

The Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced a joint call for proposals to select up to 10 basic research projects from German research institutions in collaboration with Brazilian ones.

In October 2025, the consortium of German universities will hold two editions of the Postdoc in Germany workshop in Brazil’s Northeast: in Fortaleza (21/10) and Recife (23/10). Organised by the German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH) São Paulo and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the events target early-career researchers who are in the final years of their PhD or who completed their doctorate no more than four years ago and wish to conduct research in Germany.

The Brazilian Embassy in Berlin invites to the 5th Meeting of the Brazilian Diaspora for Science and Innovation on 17 October 2025.

From 13 to 18 July 2025, the University of Münster – represented by Cíntia Toth, Head of the Brazil Centre and the Liaison Office São Paulo, and Dr. Anne Vortkamp from the REACH – Euregio Start-up Center – took part in the 77th Annual Meeting of the Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC) in Recife.
