5th Meeting of the Brazilian Diaspora for Science and Innovation in Berlin

The Brazilian Embassy in Berlin invites to the 5th Meeting of the Brazilian Diaspora for Science and Innovation on 17 October 2025. The annual event brings together Brazilian researchers from all disciplines, at different stages of their careers and from various types of institutions to promote exchange, networking and cooperation between Germany and Brazil.
One of the highlights of this year's event will be the introduction of the new Brazilian ambassador to the scientific community. The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), one of the world's leading public health institutions, will also be participating. During the keynote lecture, Fiocruz representatives will discuss the role of international cooperation in the current geopolitical context.
Brazilian scientists working at various German universities and research institutes will also report on their experiences in German health research, their contributions to bilateral cooperation and their perspectives for the future of science at this year's meeting on the panel ‘Health research in Germany and cooperation with Brazil and its impact on society’. The University of Münster will be represented by Brazilian postdoctoral researcher Dr Jessica Oyie Sousa Onyeisi. Dr Sousa Onyeisi, former Alexander von Humboldt Foundation scholarship holder, is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the University of Münster (UM) under the supervision of Prof. Dr Martin Götte, an active member of the Brazil Centre. With her expertise, experience and commitment to international cooperation, she will make important contributions to the discussion.
The programme will also feature contributions from the Apoena Network and the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In a session on international networking among Brazilian diaspora groups, Prof. Ana Maria Carneiro, an expert from UNICAMP, will provide insights into her studies on the Brazilian diaspora. This session will also explore the roles and challenges of diaspora networks, and introduce the Sabiá network.
Participants will also have the opportunity to present their projects spontaneously. To conclude the event, the Apoena Network is inviting participants to a happy hour in the beer garden (separate registration required). This will provide all participants with the opportunity to network in a relaxed atmosphere.
The meeting will take place in a hybrid format: in person at the embassy and online.
Date & Time: Friday, 17 October 2025, 14:30 – 18:30
