Application and forms

Application deadlines:

31 January for the following winter semester
31 July for the summer semester of the following year

For an exchange place at one of the central partner universities you apply directly at the International Office of the University of Münster. Please send your complete application in the form of a summarised PDF document (ONE per partner university application) by e-mail to:

Dr Petra Hille
International Office
Schlossplatz 3
48149 Münster
petra.hille@uni-muenster.de

You may apply for a maximum of 3 places at the university-wide partner universities. For each of these partner universities, send us a PDF file with the complete application documents. Please indicate a prioritisation in the email with your application documents.

After the selections have been made, the applicants* selected by the International Office will be informed and subsequently nominated for an exchange place at the respective partner university. For the nomination and the subsequent application steps at the respective host university, further documents are required. The final decision on acceptance then lies with the host university after all application steps have been completed. In average, there are about four months between the submission of your application documents to the International Office and the final confirmation of acceptance by the host university.

Please note: You are applying to a partner university outside the EU and therefore need a valid passport at the time of nomination or shortly after nomination. If you do not have a valid passport at the time of application, please apply for one immediately, as the processing time for a passport at the citizens' office can take 4-6 weeks.

  • Application documents (to be submitted)

For the individual partner universities, different application documents are required. Before applying, please check with the help of the information about the individual partner universities whether you meet all the requirements of the partner university (grade point average, proof of language proficiency, etc.).

Required documents for all partner universities are:

    • Tabular curriculum vitae in English; approx. 1-2 pages
    • Letter of motivation in English; approx. 1-2 pages
You can find helpful information for your letter of motivation HERE
    • Current Transcript of Records; an automatically generated transcript of records in GERMAN is sufficient. The ToR should be prepared in the month of the application deadline. Please keep in mind that you will need an English ToR for further application steps at the partner university, so apply for it early.
    • Proof of English language proficiency and/or proof of proficiency in the local language, if applicable.
    • Current enrollment certificate
    • Copy of passport

Please note: Depending on the partner university, additional application documents may be required. For more information, please refer to the respective partner universities and the FAQs.

  • Notes on language certificates

Please note: Language certificates must not be older than 3 years at the time of application, unless the partner university has higher requirements.

English language proof: The type of language proof accepted may vary depending on the partner university. Therefore, please check the information on the respective partner universities to find out which type of language certificate (DAAD, TOEFL ibT, IELTS, etc.) and which level you need to provide.

The Language Center of  the University of Münster offers language exams for the acquisition of the DAAD language certificate for students of all subjects: www.uni-muenster.de/Sprachenzentrum/sprachtests/sprachzeugnisse/index.html

Language certificate in the national language: For some partner universities, a language certificate in the national language (usually at least level B1) is also required. Further information can be found in the information about the respective partner universities.

For language certificates in languages other than English, please contact the lecturers of the respective philologies.

  • Further application steps after selection

After selection by the International Office, further documents are required for the nomination process or subsequent application steps at the respective host universities. Detailed information can be found on our website for the respective partner universities.

Should we select you for a place at one of our central partner universities, we require an official declaration of acceptance from you, which we will send to you by email with the offer of nomination.

After acceptance by the partner university, you should also fill out a Learning Agreement in which you list your desired courses and discuss them with the responsible coordinators in the department. This can also be used as a basis for crediting the courses at Münster University.

After your stay we need the following documents from you:

    • Transcript of Records
    • Personal report

You can find the necessary forms as well as a guideline for the report on your personal experience in the forms section ‘To the forms’.
