Sponsors and alumni of the University of Münster
A number of special projects in research, teaching and academics are supported by friends and sponsors of the University of Münster. On the following pages, we present a selection of these projects and cordially invite you to join us in supporting the University. For more information, please feel free to contact the staff of the University Fundraising Department.
The University also strives to maintain close contact with former students and staff. As the University's largest network, the Alumni Club Universität Münster can help you stay in touch with other alumni and your alma mater. There are also alumni associations in faculties and institutes which strengthen the network in individual subject areas.

New Trainee Garden Bed at the Botanical Garden – Sponsored by Sparkasse Münsterland Ost
The new garden bed created by the Botanical Garden’s trainees will not only impress with its plant diversity but also convey an important message: Trainees April Martin and Florian Hartig have developed a concept that demonstrates how biodiversity and insect conservation can truly work in your own garden. Instead of invasive species like the butterfly bush, the guide presents native alternatives that not only provide nectar but also serve as a habitat for caterpillars, wild bees, and butterflies. A key concern was the emphasis on the changing seasons. Plants do not lose their value once they have finished blooming—they serve as important nesting and overwintering sites. From caterpillar food plants to winter shelters—the “Apprentice Bed” takes species conservation all the way. The planting will be on display in the middle of the barefoot path starting in May. Visitors to the garden are warmly invited to find inspiration on how they can create a home for biodiversity in their own gardens. The Sparkasse Münsterland Ost has taken on sponsorship of the bed.
The Botanical Garden offers sponsorship opportunities for plants and plant areas. Interested individuals can visit www.pflanzenpate.de to choose their favorite plant and become a sponsor for as little as 50 euros per year. As a token of appreciation for their support, each sponsor receives a certificate, a personalized plaque on the plant, and an invitation to the annual Sponsors’ Day.
You can find more information about plant sponsorships here.

University Foundation Honors Citizen Science Projects
One project focuses on festival music, the other on climate change: The University Foundation has now awarded the Citizen Science Prize to two research projects. “Think along—get involved—research together” was the motto of the ceremony, at which representatives of the projects accepted the prizes, each worth 7,500 euros. The chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees, Dr. Mathias Kleuker, took the opportunity to invite the guests in the well-attended studio theater to join in the research. Both sides would contribute their own perspectives—and that is how new knowledge is created. “Citizen science is close to the foundation’s heart,” he emphasized. In his keynote address, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Michael Quante emphasized the importance of citizen science engagement for the university and society. “Data, facts, and sound reasoning are the only antidote we can offer against fact-free, loud rhetoric,” said the philosopher. Citizen science, he noted, is “not just a gimmick,” but indispensable to democracy.

University of Münster thanks 113 ProTalent sponsors
Around 300 cheerful guests, plenty of music with an extraordinary encore, and an interesting keynote speech: this year's scholarship ceremony at the University of Münster offered sponsors and scholarship recipients of the ProTalent scholarship program a varied program. The scholarship recipients' résumés not only showed excellent academic achievements, but also a remarkable level of social, community, and university involvement, emphasized Rector Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels. “The diversity of your interests, experiences, and backgrounds is a great strength—for our university and for our society as a whole.” At the same time, he thanked the 113 sponsors. “With your commitment, you not only recognize the achievements and potential of the scholarship recipients, but also give them confidence, encouragement, and motivation for their future paths.”
