Stellenausschreibung

45,000 students and 8,000 employees in teaching, research and administration, all working together to shape perspectives for the future – that is the University of Münster (WWU). Embedded in the vibrant atmosphere of Münster with its high standard of living, the University’s diverse research profile and attractive study programmes draw students and researchers throughout Germany and from around the world.

The research group of Prof. Iris Finkemeier, Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the positions of

2 Doctoral Research Associates

(Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter/innen

salary level TV-L E 13, 65%)

at the earliest possible date. We are offering fixed-term part-time positions (65%) for 3 years.

The Finkemeier group investigates the role of post-translational protein modifications (i.e. acetylation, phosphorylation and cysteine redox) in the acclimation of plants towards changing environmental conditions. We are particular interested in the biochemical characterization of the writers and erasers of these modifications and to uncover their regulation. We use a broad range of molecular and biochemical techniques, especially mass spectrometry-based proteomic approaches (see Hartl et al., 2017 Mol Sys Biol, Née et al 2017 Nature Commun, Koskela et al. 2018 Plant Cell, Bienvenut et al. 2020 Mol Sys Biol, Füßl et al 2021 Plant J).

One of the PhD projects will focus on the function of cysteine redox regulation during seed germination, while the other project will focus on the role of histone deacetylases in organellar retrograde signaling. Both projects will involve handling of plants and a number of molecular, biochemical, proteomics and microscopy techniques.

Your tasks:

  • The position is tied to working towards a doctorate.
  • The research project involves molecular biology, biochemistry and proteomic approaches to investigate the role of post-translational protein modifications in the regulation of plant cell functions and acclimation to stress.
  • The position involves participation in teaching.

What we expect:

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in biochemistry and/or biology.
  • A strong background in molecular biology and protein biochemistry or related field is a requirement.
  • Good proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Curiosity and scientific thinking
  • A high intrinsic motivation, willingness to perform and enjoy working in a team
  • A positive attitude towards working with international colleagues, also throughattending conferences and doing research abroad
