The Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi) in the Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Postdoctoral Research Associate

(salary level TV-L E 13, 100%)

for the externally funded project “Erasmus Mundus Master in Geospatial Technologies”. We are offering a fixed-term full-time position (running until 31 August 2027) to be filled as soon as possible.

The project “Erasmus Mundus Master in Geospatial Technologies” (https://mastergeotech.info) is a joint European master’s programme, which is run by three university partners in Portugal, Spain and Germany. The University of Münster is coordinating the programme. The advertised position will contribute towards the implementation of this programme. The successful candidate will join the team at the situated computing lab at ifgi, which conducts research in areas such as location-based services, smart cities, digital sovereignty and citizen participation with a focus on human-computer interaction. The position provides great opportunities to further your own academic development and offers great freedom with regard to your own research and teaching.
 

Your tasks:

  • Contributing to the implementation and organisation of the master’s programme 
  • Managing outreach and dissemination activities of the master’s programme 
  • Teaching a course on research methods in the master’s programme
  • Supervision of theses and advising of students in the master’s programme
  • Contributing to research activities such as user studies, articles and proposal writing
     

Our expectations: 

  • A PhD in geoinformatics, computer science or a related discipline is required.
  • A proven research track record in geoinformatics, computer science or a related discipline is essential.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in an international and interdisciplinary team is essential.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English is a prerequisite for the position.
  • Prior experience teaching, supervising and advising international students is highly desirable. 
  • Prior experience in one or more of the following areas (or related areas) are advantageous:
    • Location-based services 
    • Citizen science and smart cities
    • Human-computer interaction
    • Geovisualisation
  • A track record of applying for research funding is desirable. 
  • German language skills are advantageous but not required.
