 Professor of Applied Statistics
 (tenured, salary level W2)

to commence on 1 October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications

We invite applications from a variety of domains within applied statistics including mathematical statistics, computational statistics, machine learning, operations research and related fields. Applicants are expected to have an internationally recognized and esteemed research record with solid contributions in the applicant's area of specialization. An appropriate qualification must be demonstrated through relevant publications in high-ranking international journals and conference proceedings in addition to a PhD in (applied) mathematics, statistics, computer science, information systems or a closely related field. Candidates are also expected to have strong university-level teaching credentials (in, among other areas, mathematics/statistics) that are documented through teaching experience in bachelor’s and master's degree programs and positive student evaluations. Robust proficiency in the English language is essential for teaching purposes.

The successful candidate will also have experience attracting external funding and managing funded projects, as well as establishing international collaborations. Experience undertaking interdisciplinary research at the intersection between mathematics/statistics and information systems, business studies, computer science or a related field is expected. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to apply statistical skills in application domains and contribute to real-world problem-solving. Finally, leadership and managerial qualifications, exemplified by, for example, the ability to establish a research group, are desired. To be considered for this position, candidates must have academic achievements made as a Juniorprofessor (assistant professor), in a Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant fields in Germany or abroad.

Responsibilities

The position involves both on-campus and digitally facilitated teaching activities in English at all levels, contributing to the further development of the curriculum and administrative tasks. Candidates should possess a well-articulated approach to mentoring and supervising PhD students that fosters an environment conducive to academic and research excellence. Responsibilities also encompass handling administrative tasks and contributing to the academic governance of the school and the university.
