The Institute of Mineralogy in the Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Lecturer
Akademische Rätin/Akademischer Rat auf Zeit
in Geochemistry
(salary level A 13 LBesO)

starting on 1st February 2024. We are offering a three-year, fixed-term position (100%) with the option to extend by an additional three years upon positive evaluation. Current working hours are 41 hours per week. The prospective candidate is required to teach four hours per week during the semester (4 SWS).

Your tasks:

-    Participate in research projects within the Geochemistry group (Prof. Stracke) and contribute to the operation and maintenance of clean laboratory and mass spectrometry facilities (TIMS, MC-ICPMS, ICPMS, XRF).
-    Develop an independent research program in Mantle Geochemistry based on isotope analysis in mantle rocks and melts (peridotites, gabbros/basalts, melt inclusions), data analysis, geochemical modeling, or geodynamic modeling.
-    Raise external research funds, mentor undergraduate and doctoral students, and supervise visitors.
-    Teach (lectures, practicals, field trips) in Geochemistry/Petrology at the Bachelor and Master levels (4 h per week).

Our expectations:

-    We seek for candidates with broad research interest in the evolution of Earth’s mantle.
-    Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, geochemistry, or geophysics, and an excellent publication record commensurate to their experience.
-    Strong background in mass spectrometry (TIMS, MC-ICPMS, ICPMS), data analysis (programming skills in Python), geochemical or geodynamic modeling documented by previous publications.
-    Previous post-doctoral experience is preferred.
-    Teaching experience at Bachelor and Master levels in Geochemistry/Petrology
-    Excellent communication and team working skills.
-    The working language in the group and at the Institute of Mineralogy is English. German language skills would be advantageous, but are not a requirement at the time of the appointment.
