Communication Science Student Body
We – the student council – are an institution representing the interests of students at the Institute of Communication Studies. In principle, the student council comprises all KoWi students in Münster, but colloquially the term refers to the voluntary association of a number of students in the so-called student council – i.e. us. We represent the interests of KoWi students in all university policy matters and thus act as an interface between the students on the one hand and the teaching staff, the institute and the university on the other. We also answer all your student questions and advise you on any problems relating to your studies or a possible start of studies at KoWi.
We represent the interests of students in various committees, such as the IfK Executive Board, the Departmental Council (and its committees, such as the Student Advisory Board, etc.) and the Student Council Conference. In addition, we participate in MeStuTa, a student conference for all media studies programmes in the DACH association, which we even hosted ourselves in the summer semester of 2025. Currently, Luis Jung, Svea Brinkmann (both permanent), Maximilian Wunschik and Nika Scheibenstock (both deputy) are elected members of the IfK board. The student council is acting in an advisory capacity in the departmental council this semester. The chair of the student council is Svea Brinkmann, with Maximilian Wunschik and Hannah Motae Samy serving as deputies. Luis Jung and Joana Galetzka are responsible for finances.
In addition to our involvement in university politics, we organise various events for all students. The most important project is the orientation week for our first-year students, which takes place every year at the beginning of the winter semester. We also organise parties, summer festivals, pub quizzes and poetry slams at regular intervals. Otherwise, the student council is one thing above all else: a cosy community that meets regularly on Mondays to talk about all kinds of things. Whether it's sharing experiences with older students, simply lending an ear or playing Werewolf together, we meet to spend time together. Feel free to join this friendly community and drop by our meetings. All interested parties are welcome!
Further information about the student council is available by email or on Instagram.
The KoWi student council has compiled an overview of external initiatives that are particularly relevant for KoWi students and in which they can volunteer alongside their studies. This overview can be viewed here.
