Research at the Institute of Political Science is diverse and successful.

It takes place in the management of and participation in university research centers such as the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics", in the research groups of the Graduate School of Politics (GRASP) as well as in research networks and national and international research projects of the individual professorships.

Research in the Graduate School of Politics

The research groups in the Graduate School of Politics discuss current research from the ranks of doctoral students, but also postdocs and professors, and thus offer thematically structured exchange platforms on focal points of research interests at IfPol. Currently active are research groups on:
Advanced Quantitative Methods
Civil Society and Governance
Europäische und Internationale Governance
Gouvernementalität
Politische Theorie
Urbane und Regionale Innovation und Internet

Research in research networks and third-party funded projects

The Institute of Political Science is significantly involved in several large research networks, such as the priority project "Kulturen des Kompromisses", the research networks "Sustainable Trade & Innovation Transfer in the Bioeconomy (STRIVE)" and  "SmartHubs - Game Changers in Transport (SmartHubs)", as well as the research project "Navigating the Mediterranean: Search and Rescue Missions and the Dissensus on Democracy (ZivDem)".

In addition, IfPol is involved in numerous other research projects funded by the European Union within the framework of Horizon 2020, by the DFG, the BMBF or other national funding agencies. An overview can be found on the pages of our professors.
