Good reasons

At the University of Münster, you matter as a person, not just as a staff member. Your well-being, your development, and your life situation are important to us. Therefore, we offer you many benefits – which you can happily understand as promises.

Sounds good? With a few clicks, you can find out more.

  • Our values

Already in the appointment negotiations I noticed that great value is placed on appreciation and transparency. A good feeling from the very beginning!

Our working atmosphere is characterised by appreciation, transparency, openness and fairness. We want you to enjoy coming to work and place great importance on good teamwork.

In our code of conduct, you can read how we would like to interact with each other and what values and orientations the University of Münster stands for.

  • Fair and transparent remuneration

The collective agreement offers me security and transparency! I greatly appreciate the annual bonus payment in November.

At the University of Münster you can expect a secure job in the public sector with the following financial benefits:

    • transparent salary structures with automatic salary increases and regular collective bargaining adjustments,
    • an annual bonus and an
    • attractive company pension scheme (VBL)

In the job advertisements you will find information about the salary level or remuneration. What this means in numbers for you can be seen in the collective agreement for the public service (TV-L) or in the remuneration table NRW for civil servants.

The "E" in the TV-L stands for the salary level. Within a salary level there are so-called "experience levels" (1-6), which are based on professional experience. The corresponding remuneration can be derived from the salary level and the level assignment.

  • Working with childcare responsibilities or caring for dependents

The Family Service Office has been a great help in my search for childcare for my little daughter.

Do you wonder how you can balance family, care of a family member and work? Our Family Service Office is happy to support you with your daily challenges, inform and help with:

    • the mediation of childcare offers and qualified babysitters,
    • the back-up service for exceptional and emergency situations,
    • questions about basic parental allowance or parental allowance plus,
    • the need for parent-child rooms,
    • the organisation of holiday programmes as well as
    • advice for dependent relatives, e.g. regarding legal entitlements, release options, networking and self-care options such as the care service everyday helpers [de] for "Family and Friends".
  • Structured onboarding

My godmother gave me the feeling of belonging to the team from the very first day and was always there to offer advice and support. This made my start really easy!

At the University of Münster, you are warmly welcome – and that is not just a platitude, we mean it!

We want you to feel at home from the very beginning and to be part of our team right away. That is why we place great importance on a structured, yet personal and approachable onboarding process. Our induction is based on clear guidelines, which have been jointly developed by supervisors and employees – and which are actively lived in the daily work routine.

In the first days and weeks, you will usually be accompanied by a personal mentor, who will be at your side with all questions and make your start easier. In addition, we offer seminars for new employees to make your start with us as easy as possible.

  • Healthy and fit

The health programme shows me that genuine care is taken for the well-being of the staff – and that motivates me anew every day.

Our occupational health management (OHM) offers you a diverse range of services: from relaxation courses and sporting activities – such as the virtual active lunch break – to individually adaptable workplaces, for example through height-adjustable desks or screen glasses.

Our employees also have the opportunity to utilise the varied course offerings of university sports (Hochschulsport) with over 130 different sports at reduced rates. This way, we support you in maintaining health and balance throughout your working day.

  • Professional development and continuing education

The extensive training programme is truly impressive! I am thrilled by the variety of courses.

As an educational institution, it is our particular concern to support you in your professional development and to accompany you on your individual path.

In our professional development portal, you will certainly find suitable offers: from IT training to supervisor training and communication seminars to language courses – our offer is vast and diverse!

From your first day of work, you will have access to all offers and can discuss with your supervisor what is helpful and tailored to your task. Registration is straightforward via the professional development portal – so that you receive the support you need from the very beginning.

  • Human Resource Development

A job at the university is not an end station for me, but a new start for my professional and personal development!

Human Resource Development plays a significant role at the University of Münster: It supports the staff in successfully managing their tasks and preparing for future challenges.

Further information can be found in the Human Resource Development concept (pdf) of the University of Münster.

  • My job in IT offers me great flexibility in structuring my working hours and choosing my workplace. Brilliant!

Flexible working times and flexible working locations

As a certified family-friendly university, we place great emphasis on creating working conditions that are tailored to the individual life situations of our employees. Many of our employees can flexibly arrange their working hours – in consultation with their respective supervisor – within the framework of 6.30am to 8.00pm. There are no fixed core working hours by design, so personal needs and professional tasks can be well reconciled.

Mobile working also offers the possibility of choosing the workplace flexibly – whether in the home office or another suitable environment.

For our employees in the technical and craft areas, whose work requires on-site presence, we ensure predictable and reliable working hours.

  • Holiday

30 days holiday plus days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve – that is impressive!

Our employees benefit from 30 days of annual leave, supplemented by two additional free days on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

For those who plan a longer break for personal projects, for the family, for further education or for social engagement, the University of Münster offers the possibility of a sabbatical.

  • Working with disabilities

Together we create an inclusive and diverse work environment where all employees are equally welcome!

We are convinced: Together, we create an inclusive and diverse working environment where all employees are equally welcome and feel comfortable. Everyone counts at our university, which is why the University of Münster is particularly committed to inclusion and the equal participation of employees with disabilities.

Our Representative for People with Severe, Long-term Impairments supports and advises you gladly on an individual basis with your questions.

  • Gender mainstreaming and diversity

Here, people from various nations come together to work on a common goal. I experience this diversity as an absolute enrichment for my work!

Equal opportunity and diversity are central components of our culture at the University of Münster. We aim to create an environment where everyone – regardless of gender, origin, personal circumstances, or individual needs – can realise their potential.

Our commitment is reflected in awards and certifications that we are particularly proud of:

“Shaping diversity – Diversity Audit 2024”

The audit confirms our systematic approach to leveraging diversity as a strength and anchoring it long-term in all areas of the university.

    “Total E-Quality”-seal

This award recognises our sustainable measures for equal opportunity, particularly in the fields of human resource development and promotion of junior researchers.

    “Family-friendly university”

This certification acknowledges our efforts towards family-friendly working conditions – from flexible working models to reliable support offers and a lived culture of understanding for different realities of life.

The programme "Erstklassig!" has reinforced my resolve to pursue my path as a woman in science.

    Including:

  • Events

The garden party at the Schloss is my annual highlight! Celebrating at the foot of the Schloss in a relaxed atmosphere with a great programme. You won't find that anywhere else!

Besides our daily work, there is one thing that is particularly close to our hearts: the sense of community. Our shared activities and events are far more than just appointments in the calendar – they are moments when we come together, laugh, get to know each other better, and experience what truly makes us a team.

So, our employees look forward to the special highlights each year, such as the company party, the Leonardo-Campus-Run, the garden party at the Schloss, or the lively Altweiberparty in the Schloss.

  • Working in the liveable city of Münster

Mad! In Münster there are two bicycles for every resident! I love cycling to work in this beautiful city with the "Leeze".

The Münsterland - urban and rural, bustling and relaxed, modern and traditional, young and ancient. In any case: always different - always worth living!

Our university is located in the heart of the Münsterland - in Münster, one of the most livable cities in the world - see for yourself: Münstervideo.

We are not a campus university, but distributed across over 220 buildings throughout the city centre. Our employees love to travel from one workplace to the next with the "work leeze", as the bicycle is called in Münster. Sometimes along the green promenade, sometimes along the Aasee or through the quaint old town past the Schloss - the city is our campus!
