The department of Neuromotor Behavior and Exercise has been awarded €4,500 by the Universitätsgesellschaft Münster in support of its Training Lab project, an initiative that brings sports science expertise to recreational sports clubs across the city.
The Training Lab is designed to support niche and traditionally under-resourced recreational sports in Münster by connecting them with academic sports science. The project is embedded within the seminar Physical Training in Elite Sports, part of the BSc programme Human Movement in Sports and Exercise. Through this format, students apply theoretical and practical training knowledge in real-world settings, while local clubs gain access to evidence-based guidance that would otherwise be difficult to come by.
This semester, the Training Lab will continue its work with the Münster Tourists, Münster’s women's rugby sevens team, providing tailored sports science support throughout the training period. The project is coordinated by Dr Ross Julian, and supported by Dr Jessica Coenen, Matthias Hendricks, Prof Claudia Voelcker-Rehage and Prof Eric Eils.
The funding from the Universitätsgesellschaft Münster will allow the team to expand the reach of the Training Lab and further strengthen the link between the university and Münster's recreational sports community.
