The first step into university life - enrolment

You can find a good overview of the possible degrees at University of Münster on the webpage of the Student Advice and Counselling Centre (Zentrale Studienberatung). The documents required for enrolment should be submitted in accordance with the deadlines and dates, which must be obeyed under all circumstances.

  • (Geo-)Physics as Bachelor of Science

The subjects Physics and Geophysics are open admission / non-restricted subjects in the Bachelor's programme. The enrolment for subjects with open admission at the WWU takes place online for all applicants via the enrolment portal of the University of Münster. You can find the online enrolment and binding information on the application period on university's website.
After online enrolment, the matriculation application form will be sent to you by e-mail as a PDF file. This application must be signed and sent to the Student Admissions Office together with the documents required (including an officially certified copy of your university entrance qualification (e.g. A-Level certificate) and proof of health insurance coverage).

  • (Geo-)Physics as a Master of Science

Although the subjects Physics and Geophysics in the Master's programme are open admission subjects, "open admission" here only means that no fixed number of study places has been set. Accordingly, applications must be submitted via the application portal by the deadline. Obligatory information on this procedure and further information can be found on university's website.

  • Physics as a bachelor's degree with two subjects and teaching degree for high schools and vocational college (BK)

You only need to apply if your second subject has admission restrictions. You can find more detailed information here. If this is not the case, online enrolment is sufficient as for the Bachelor of Science with one subject, which you can find here.

For the Bachelor's programme for teaching at vocational colleges (BK), educational sciences are open admission. An application is only necessary for the subject if admission is restricted. Information on this can be found Student Advice and Councelling Centre [de].

  • Physics as Bachelor’s teaching degree for secondary schools (HRSGe)

Physics is also taught for the Bachelor's degree in secondary education (Haupt-, Real-, Sekundar- und Gesamtschule, HRSGe). For this degree programme, physics is considered a so-called "compulsory subject" and can therefore be combined with any other subject. In this case, an application for the educational sciences is always required. Information on this can be found at Student Advice and Councelling Centre [de].

  • Physics as Master of Education (GymGe) for teaching at high schools and vocational college (BK)

Physics is an open admission subject in both cases. However, this does not necessarily apply to the second subject or the educational sciences. You must apply in any case. Information on MEd(GymGe) [de] and MEd(BK) [de] can be found at Student Advice and Councelling Centre.

  • Physics at Master’s teaching degree for secondary schools (HRSGe)

The subject of physics is open admission. This does not necessarily apply to your second subject or the educational sciences.  You can find more information on the MEd(HRSGe) [de] at Student Advice and Councelling Centre.

  • Physics as an additional subject

In addition, physics can also be studied as an additional subject for the teaching degree at high schools and comprehensive schools (GymGe), at lower secondary, intermediate, secondary and comprehensive schools (HRSGe) and at vocational colleges (BK). This option is available for both the Bachelor's and the Master's degree. On the webpage of the student advice and counselling centre you will find further information on the study programmes
