Postdoctoral positions and Young Research Groups
Each autumn we advertise fully funded 3 year positions for postdoctoral researchers in all research fields of Mathematics Münster as well as project-specific positions, e.g. within the Collaborative Research Centre "Geometry: Deformations and Rigidity" or the University of Münster’s mathematical institutes.
Young Research Groups
Young Research Group positions are fully funded 4 year positions for two to three postdocs collaborating on an independent research project within the research programme of Mathematics Münster. When a Young Research Group call is announced, applicants apply for a regular postdoc position as well as handing in a joint project proposal.
A Young Research Group can be formed by postdocs applying together from external institutions or by postdocs already in Münster teaming up with external applicants.
How to apply?
Calls for applications for postdoctoral positions - as well as W1 Professorships - are published on our Calls webpage in autumn, as well as on the job platforms of the EMS and the AMS (mathjobs.org).
Applications are to be submitted via the respective online form within the open call phase.
Documents shall include a cover letter, CV, copies of degree certificates, a research plan and a publication list. Letters of recommendation are to be submitted directly by the referee.
Detailed information can be found on the calls website.
What is the selection process?
Applicants are selected by a committee representing all fields of mathematics at Mathematics Münster. Investigators from Mathematics Münster provide advice to the committee. The main selection criterion is academic excellence. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview.
How are postdoctoral positions remunerated?
You will receive an employment contract (100 % FTE at E13 TV‑L level for postdoctoral positions) by the university as a scientific employee (in German: Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in). Postdoctoral Researcher who are part of a Young Research Group are offerd fixed-term full-time positions (100% FTE) for 4 years.
Depending on the source of funding, you may be required to teach up to 4 hours per week during the semester. Some of the positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), either through the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster or other funding sources. The financial terms of the positions remain consistent regardless of the funding source.
