About us

The task of the student council is basically to represent the students of our department. This means that we try to represent your interests and needs in front of the department and the university, to make the start of your studies easier with events like the orientation week, to support you during your studies with offers like the archive of old exams and to provide fun and variety at the department with events like the math party or the summer festival.

Many of you probably know the "Fachschaft" as the room at the end of the corridor in the high-rise building (if not, take a look!), where you can copy old exams, for example. But there is more here: every day of the week some of us are present to hand out old exams and protocols to you, to advise you on questions concerning your studies (for example the study regulations) or to lend rooms for seminar lecture practice. Don't be afraid to drop by if you have a question!

We also attach great importance to the first week of studies: That's why we organize an extensive orientation week every year one week before the official start of studies for first-year students. In addition, a few weeks after the start of university, there is always the legendary "Ersti-Wochenende" (freshman weekend)!

The committee work takes place more in the background. As elected representatives of the student body, we work on your behalf in the departmental council, the advisory board and other commissions, where study regulations are drafted and changed or decisions are made about filling lecturer positions.

In order to have fun, there are also some social events in our department. Once a semester we organize the math party. In summer there is the summer party and a flunkyball tournament and in winter we traditionally show the Feuerzangenbowle. But you will get to know all that soon enough!

If you are interested in getting involved in these tasks, just come to one of our public meetings! More information on how to get involved can be found here!
