Dr Sílvio Terra Stefanello from Brazil

Conducting scientific research here in Muenster is very interesting because we have easy access to renowned research centres and because it is possible to carry out collaborations with excellent researchers.
Why did you decide to come to Muenster for your research?
I encountered the work of Prof Dr Shahin's research group from the university’s Institute of Physiology at an event I attended in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 2015. At that point, I decided it would be necessary for my future aspirations to come to Muenster and conduct scientific research here.
How would you explain your research to a friend?
My research is based on understanding how metastasis, which generally describes the spread of an illness to a different part of the body, affects key cell characteristics and how we can develop new drugs to reduce cancer progression.
How has the research environment in Muenster affected your work? Would you recommend visiting Muenster to a colleague?
The research environment here in Muenster is vibrant due to the presence of researchers from many different countries and this has positively affected my work precisely because it sets up an atmosphere of mutual exchange of experiences. I recommend it to my colleagues because others can also form great partnerships here.
What makes Muenster a great place to stay during research? Which aspects of the city do you like the most?
Conducting scientific research here in Muenster is very interesting because we have easy access to renowned research centres and because it is possible to carry out collaborations with excellent researchers. I also like that Muenster has many green areas and that any part of the city can be accessed by bike. The festivities like Carnival, the Christmas markets, and the weekly market are fun and captivating.
