This event is part of the Münster PrideWeeks 2026. “That’s not my son!”—These words from Benjamin’s father hurt deeply during his childhood. They represent one of the many wounds the gay ballet dancer from Cameroon has suffered in his life. Benjamin is the main character in Max Lobe’s autofictional novel Ein Funky-Makossa für die Freiheit (akono Verlag, Leipzig, 2025). Like the author, Benjamin lives in exile in Switzerland. In this both intimate and political novel, Max Lobe guides the reader, as if in a dance, through the stories of a country, exploring cultural identity, uprooting, resistance, and the possibility of self-realization outside the family. In Ein Funky-Makossa für die Freiheit, oral tradition, music, and humor blend with poetry, emotion, and political reflection. The event will be held in German and French.
