Ross Julian delivers research talks and practitioner workshops at the University of Gloucestershire

We’re pleased to share that Dr Ross Julian recently visited the University of Gloucestershire, where he is a Visiting Research Fellow, for a week of research, teaching, and knowledge exchange focused on women’s football and athlete health. During the visit, Ross delivered a series of presentations, including a well-attended public lecture titled “Training & Injury Risk in Elite Female Football.” The lecture explored how training load, physiology, and contextual factors interact to influence injury risk in elite women players.
He also ran a dedicated PhD workshop supporting six doctoral researchers working in this area. As part of the workshop, Ross delivered an in-depth session on Principles for Precision in Menstrual Cycle Research in Sport & Exercise Science, highlighting best practice in study design, monitoring, and applied implementation.
The week concluded with a visit to the Arsenal Women Academy, where Ross delivered a CPD course for academy staff. The session focused on how to implement menstrual cycle tracking in practice and how this information can be used to better inform training design and athlete monitoring strategies.
The visit reflects ongoing collaboration between academia and practice, and a shared commitment to advancing evidence-based support for women footballers at all levels.
