Current Opportunities

Certificate Course “Through Music to Language”
Offered by the Professional School at the University of Münster

“Through Music to Language” is a music therapy concept designed to holistically support children in preschool and elementary school. This continuing education program equips participants to independently lead group sessions based on this scientifically evaluated concept in daycare centers, family education centers, schools, music schools, counseling centers, and private practice.

Library and Research

At the Institute Library, located at Philippistr. 2, you will find an extensive collection of books on music therapy, as well as on music psychology, psychoanalysis, and morphological psychology. A large portion of the bachelor’s and master’s theses from the University of Münster can also be viewed there.

History of Music Therapy at the University of Münster

From 1987 to 2017, a music therapy program was offered in cooperation between the Institute for Music Education, the Institute of Musicology, and the Department of Medicine. It was initially offered as a supplementary diploma program and, starting in 2011, as a master’s program in Clinical Music Therapy. Starting in 2012, the Department of Music (Department 8) offered the opportunity to earn a Ph.D. (Dr. phil.) in music therapy.

179 students earned their diploma in music therapy, and 62 earned their Master’s degree in Clinical Music Therapy. To date, 12 students have completed their doctoral studies in music therapy at the University of Münster.
