85 IfK graduates bid farewell at graduation ceremony
(July 24, 2024) Last Friday, July 19, 2024, IfK bid farewell to a total of 85 graduates at the auditorium of the university. Prof. Dr. Julia Metag, the Managing Director of the department of communication, congratulated the recipients of 14 master's and 70 bachelor's degrees from the summer semester of 2024. Anke Oßwald, a doctoral candidate at IfK, also received congratulations on her successful Ph.D. completion.
At the start of the graduation ceremony, Julia Metag welcomed the many guests, including graduates, numerous family members, friends, and department staff. In her speech, she warmly congratulated the 85 graduates on behalf of the entire IfK: "We were privileged to accompany part of your journey and now share this moment of joy with you. Today also marks the end of a demanding period for us." Julia Metag urged the graduates to take responsibility and actively shape the future of society. Especially in the current era of misinformation and AI, the competencies learned during their studies are crucial for spotting dangerous uncertainties and bringing about positive changes in the world.
Emily Süß and Theodor Randhagen then spoke on behalf of the master's graduates. In their speech, "Master of K(ow)I," they humorously queried various aspects of the program, professors, Erasmus stays, and other facets of student life into ChatGPT in front of the audience, entertaining guests with the simulated whimsical responses and images from the chatbot.
Marie Gerber and Pia Grohmann, representing the bachelor's graduates, took the stage with their speech titled "We did it – Just Bachelor?!" The speechwriters humorously recapped their studies at IfK, amusing the audience with anecdotes from their student life and providing insights into the institute's friendly atmosphere.
Rebekka Wilhelm and Felix Feldmann from the "Duo Eigendynamik" provided the musical entertainment for the evening. The duo performed a variety of pop culture covers with guitar, saxophone, and vocals. In four atmospheric duets ranging from The Beatles to Jack Johnson, the two musicians captivated the audience.
Finally Julia Metag briefly introduced the alumni association MedienAlumni Münster e.V., which supports research and teaching at IfK and offers a mentoring program. Former IfK students are warmly invited to join the association and thus maintain contact with the institute in the future. After Julia Metag personally congratulated all graduates and presented the obligatory gerbera, the event concluded with a reception in the foyer.
