International research stays in your doctorate

From first ideas to lasting ties

Target group: doctoral researchers

If international research stays are so valuable, why do only about 30% of doctoral researchers go abroad during their doctorate? How can these experiences truly strengthen your project and (academic) career, and what challenges might they bring? When is the right moment, and what kind of stay suits your work and life best – short research visit, lab collaboration, or fieldwork?

This interactive half-day workshop helps doctoral researchers reflect on these questions and determine whether, when, and how an international stay aligns with their research, career, and life plans.

Objectives:

  • Make informed decisions about whether, when, and what type of international stay best supports your goals.

  • Learn key steps to plan, finance, carry out, and successfully reintegrate after a research stay abroad – while fostering meaningful international connections.

Facilitator: Sabine Schneider (CERes)
