Making confident decisions as a (post)doctoral researcher

Target group: doctoral and postdoctoral researchers
Academic life involves constant decision-making – from choosing research directions to navigating career paths and personal priorities. This interactive workshop equips you with tools to make decisions with greater clarity and confidence. Participants will explore how to align decisions with long-term goals and values, assess risks and information effectively, overcome indecision and fear of failure, and balance logic, intuition and practical constraints. The workshop also highlights the role of mentors and peers in the decision-making process. Through interactive exercises and peer discussions, participants will apply these tools to their own situations and challenges.
Objectives:
-
Analyse academic and career-related decisions in relation to long-term goals, values, and practical constraints
-
Apply structured decision-making strategies to evaluate options, risks, and available information
-
Reflect on and justify decisions by integrating logical analysis, intuition, and input from mentors and peers
Facilitator: Dr Matthias Zach (Coaching und Training Dr. Matthias Schwarzkopf)
