Termination of an existing degree programme
Students, faculty members, and staff involved in studies and teaching work closely together to ensure an attractive and successful study program. The faculties are primarily responsible for the development and quality of their degree programs.
To ensure responsible resource planning and offer an appealing study program, faculties analize relevant key figures for each degree program on a regular basis against the background of the overall portfolio of offered degree programs. This includes information about demand for the respective degree programs and student success. These analyses can lead to the decision to terminate a degree program in the faculty, for example, to make room for innovative and attractive offers.
Attractive and successful degree programs as a goal
The rectorate of the University of Münster takes its responsibility seriously by keeping an eye on the overall situation of the study program offerings. To do this, it regularly reviews the functionality and performance of all degree programs. If necessary, the rectorate prompts the respective faculties to take measures to improve the functionality and performance of individual degree programs. If these efforts do not bring the desired success, this can also lead to the decision to discontinue a degree program.
With the decision to terminate a degree program, several practical questions need to be clarified to ensure a smooth and legally secure transition for all parties involved. The dean's office of the respective faculty takes the lead in this process and works closely with the QM representative and central administration. Together, they ensure that all necessary steps are taken. The concerns of the students are of central importance in this process.
Further information on the individual phases can be found in the QM Portal for Studies and Teaching at the University of Münster (internal university area).
