Welcome to the Institute of Slavic Studies!

The Insitute of Slavic Studies at the University of Münster on Bispinghof focuses on the languages and literatures of the Slavic cultural area in history and the present day. The focus is on the Slavic languages Russian, Polish, and Czech, as well as Ukrainian. The Slavic Studies can be started in the winter semester as part of a dual-subject bachelor's degree. A master's degree program is currently being developed.

In addition to Slavic philology, research in literary studies focuses on comparative and intermedia issues as well as literary and cultural theory. In linguistics, research focuses on systemic and psycholinguistic issues on the one hand and translation studies on the other.

Members of the institute are involved in the Cluster of Excellence of the University of Münster on Religion and Politics. We are part of the university-wide network Ukrainian Studies in Münster (USiM), a member of the Osteuropa-Kolleg NRW (East European College of North Rhine-Westphalia), and a branch of the German Association for East European Studies.

Our reference library offers an extensive selection of primary and secondary literature on various Slavic languages, literatures, and cultures. A special feature is the library's additional collection of Baltic and Finno-Ugric materials. Under News you will find information on events, publications, current job advertisments, and other news from the Institute of Slavic Studies. Many of our events are also aimed at a broader interested public in the sense of transfer and science communication. Together with the Department of Eastern European History at the University of Münster, we operate the mailing list Ost-MEU Münster, which serves as a forum for exchanging information on Eastern/Central European-related events and research and teaching at the University of Münster.
