

Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Münster on Bispinghof focuses on the languages and literatures of the Slavic cultural area in history and the present day. The focus is on the Slavic languages Russian, Polish and Czech, as well as Ukrainian. The Slavic Studies are part of a two-subject Bachelor‘s degree that can be taken up in the winter semester. A specialist Master‘s program is being developed.
In addition to Slavic philology, the main areas of research in literary studies include comparative and intermedia issues as well as literary and cultural theory. In linguistics, research focuses on both systemic and psycholinguistic issues, as well as tranlation studies. Members of the Institute Are involved in the Cluster of Excellence of the University of Münster on Religion and Politics. We are part of the university-wide Ukrainian Studies in Münster (USiM) network, a member of the Osteuropa-Kolleg NRW, and a branche office of the German Association for Eastern European Studies.
Our reference library offers an extensive selection of primary and secondary literature on various Slavic languages, literatures, and cultures. A special feature is the library's additional collection of Baltic and Finno-Ugric materials. Under News, you will find information on events, publications, current job advertisments, and other news from the Institute of Slavic Studies. Many of our events are also aimed at a broader interested public in the sense of transfer and science communication.
Together with the Department of Eastern European History at the University of Münster, we operate the mailing list "Ost-MEU Münster",which serves as a platform for the exchange of information on events related to Eastern/Central Europe and research and teaching at the University of Münster.
