CBM HADES dielectron winter school

For two days we were visited by phd and master students from the universities of Wuppertal, Gießen, Darmstadt and even one participant from Orsay, France, for the first edition of the CBM HADES dielectron winter school. The participants were members of the experiments CBM or HADES, which have significant overlap both on the phyics background and the technical level. Through many talks and discussion rounds during this school a lot of valuable knowledge was exchanged, common problems and challenges were examined, and new inspiration and solutions were obtained. Luckily there was still time for a visit of the beautiful Münster Christmas Market!

CBM-TRD detector construction workshop

For several days scientists from the Horia Hulubei National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH) in Bucharest visited our institute for extensive knowledge transfer and discussions regarding the many complex production steps of the CBM transition radiation detector. This detector is being developed and built as a common project by the IFIN-HH, the Institut für Kernphysik in Frankfurt am Main and the Institut für Kernphysik in Münster.

Heavy ions meet heavy metal

In a cooperation with Netzwerk Teilchenwelt members of our group traveled to the Music Forge festival in Lich. Together with other physicists from the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen and support from the festival organizers they operated a booth on the festival site, where metal fans of all ages were able to learn about our research activities by creating buttons, looking at a vapor chamber and playing games. The highlight: The modeling of particle collision with a wall of death at the concert of the band Bluthund.

This was such a unique way of conveying our research to non-physicists that WDR Lokalzeit chose to report on it, including an interview by Prof. Klein-Bösing! Group on Tour

This time for our annual bike tour we took a 22km long route via Gievenbeck, Roxel and Mecklenbeck to the Aasee, where we got our well deserved pizza at the end!

Lab Tour

For students who are interested in writing a bachelor or master thesis in our group there will be a lab tour on Nov 8th 2024. We will meet at 3 pm in room 102 in the institute of nuclear physics.
