At the "ImPuls der Zukunft" fair on 4 July 2026 aboard the "MS Wissenschaft", institutes and departments from the University of Münster, Münster University of Applied Sciences (FH Münster) and Münster University Hospital (UKM) presented insights into their current research projects.

Mathematics was also represented. At the exhibit "Mapping the Mind: How Mathematics Enables Modern Therapies in Neurology", Prof. Dr. Christian Engwer (Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster), Prof. Dr. Carsten Wolters (Institute for Biomagnetism and Biosignal Analysis) and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Malte Höltershinken demonstrated how mathematical models help researchers investigate and treat conditions such as epilepsy and psychotic disorders. Using interactive digital displays, visitors could see how EEG signals are used to reconstruct a "view" of the brain - an important basis for personalised therapies. They could also explore the underlying mathematical methods themselves through interactive, step-by-step demonstrations.

Mathematics also featured at the neighbouring stand, where the team from the Multiscale Imaging Centre (MIC) presented images of cells, tissues and organisms. Through hands-on activities, visitors learned how processes within the body can be made visible. Researchers in mathematics are also involved in several of the MIC's research groups.

The MS Wissenschaft is a converted cargo ship that serves as a floating science centre, touring about 30 cities each summer with exhibits for hands-on testing and participation. Universities in each city supplement the exhibition with a multifaceted event programme. This year’s theme is the "Medicine of the Future".
