Bourbaki Seminar on the research of Franziska Jahnke and Konstantinos Kartas

A major recognition for Prof. Dr. Franziska Jahnke and Dr. Konstantinos Kartas: On January 31, 2026, research results of the two members of Mathematics Münster will be presented at the "Séminaire N. Bourbaki" in Paris. The internationally renowned seminar series is considered a barometer of current developments in mathematical research.
In her talk entitled "The model theory of perfectoid fields, after Jahnke and Kartas", Dr. Sylvy Anscombe (Université Paris Cité) will present the work of Franziska Jahnke and Konstantinos Kartas, based on their joint publication "Beyond the Fontaine-Wintenberger Theorem", J. Amer. Math. Soc. 38 (2025), 997-1047.
"The fact that our work will be the subject of a Bourbaki seminar is an immense honour for me and makes one of my major life goals come true," says Franziska Jahnke. "It means that our results are being considered as a key innovation, with the potential to influence the research area for a long time to come."
The Bourbaki Seminar will take place on 31 January 2026, starting at 10 am, at the Institut Henri Poincaré (IHP, Charles Hermite lecture hall), 11 rue Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris 5th district. The lectures will be livestreamed and recorded.
Franziska Jahnke is a professor at the Mathematical Institute and the Institute for Mathematical Logic and Foundational Research since 2024. Her area is the model theory of fields. Her work combines mathematical logic with applications in algebra and number theory. The aim of her research is to employ the model theory of henselian fields to bridge between arithmetic geometry and Shelah's classification theory, in particular the Stable Fields Conjecture. The methods used range from classical valuation theory via the study of rational points on curves and varieties to infinite combinatorics.
Konstantinos Kartas is a postdoctoral researcher and has been a Humboldt Research Fellow at the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster since 2025. He is interested in the interactions between model theory and arithmetic geometry. Before coming to Münster, he conducted research at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, at IMJ-PRG/Sorbonne Université, and at the University of Oxford.
About the Bourbaki Seminar
The Bourbaki Seminar (Séminaire Nicolas Bourbaki) is an internationally renowned series of seminars in Paris that has been held since 1948. It is one of the most important institutions in contemporary mathematics and is considered a barometer of current developments in mathematical research. The seminars are organised by the Association des Collaborateurs de Nicolas Bourbaki, which was founded in 1935, and usually take place four times a year. At each session, four lectures are given by internationally recognised mathematicians on the work of others. The subjects of the talks are chosen by the members of the Association des Collaborateurs de Nicolas Bourbaki.
