Language course "Preparation for the DSH Examination"
To gain admission to a German-language degree programme at the University of Münster, applicants without a German Abitur have to prove very good German language skills, usually at the DSH-2 level.
The University of Münster offers prospective students the chance to improve their German language skills in intensive DaF courses (German as a Foreign Language) at the B1/B2 and C1 levels. The courses run for about six months (from January to July, and from August to January). The participation fee is currently 500 euros per semester. Because language course participants are enrolled at the University, they are also obliged to pay the regular semester fee of ca. 280 euros per semester.
If the language course participant passes the DSH examination and then enrols in a degree programme at the University of Münster, he or she will be reimbursed for the course fees they have paid when they re-register for their second semester.
The prerequisites for participating in a language course are:
- a university entrance qualification
- proof of German language competence at the B1 level (in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). We accept the following certificates as proof:
- Telc Deutsch B1
- Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer B1
- Deutsch für den Beruf B1
- Goethe Zertifikat B1
- onSET B1
- DSD1 der KMK, Niveaustufe B1
- B1 certificate from a DaF language course at the University of Münster
If you wish to participate in a language course, you must apply via the online application portal [de] of the University of Münster. Under the heading "Studiengangauswahl" choose "Deutschkurs für Ausländer".
Application period for language course participation:
Winter semester courses: from 1 May to 31 May
Summer semester courses: from 1 November to 30 November
After you have filled out and submitted the online application, you will receive an email with an attached checklist. Please print this out, sign it and send it to the postal address indicated on the sheet, along with all of the required certificates. These usually include:
- an authenticated translation of your foreign school-leaving certificate with a transcript of grades, and if applicable, an authenticated translation of a certificate confirming that you have passed a university entrance examination, and proof of completed university-level courses (transcripts, diplomas etc.)
- a B1-level German language certificate
Please send your complete application to the Student Admissions Office:
Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster
48149 Münster | Germany
The certificates mentioned above should be sent as officially authenticated copies to the University of Münster. Documents can be authenticated [de] at:
- responsible embassies
- public authorities
If your certificates are issued in a language other than German or English, we will also need an official German or English translation (likewise as an officially authenticated copy).
Chinese, Vietnamese and Mongolian applicants must also submit an APS certificate.
If required documents are missing by the given deadline, the Student Admissions Office will reject your application!
You will receive notification in either mid-December or mid-June regarding your participation in the language course. The Student Admissions Office only grants admission on the condition that you pass the language course placement test. In this test, administered on the first day of the language course, you must demonstrate that you have achieved a B1-level of German language competence.
Please note that participating in a language course does not grant you admission to a degree programme. After completing the language course, you will have to apply separately for admission to your desired degree programme.
