Funding format for young researchers in the field of AI/ML

The funding format is aimed at young researchers who want to implement their own research project in the field of AI/ML after completing their doctorate and who want to qualify for a further academic career. Each university may submit a maximum of two applications. If you are interested, please contact and submit an expression of interest.

Deadline for submission of expression of interest: 08/24/2022.

Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME)

The programme PRIME, initiated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), supports the international mobility of postdoctoral researchers by offering temporary positions at German universities . The funding includes a 12-month phase abroad and a six-month integration phase in Germany. For more information, please visit the DAAD website.

The 2022/23 call for applications is closed. The program is usually announced annually.

MKW NRW: Lamarr Fellow Network Ramp Up

Funding format for internationally outstanding researchers in the field of KI/ML

The funding format is aimed at internationally outstanding AI researchers in North Rhine-Westphalia who have distinguished themselves through high-quality research results and publication achievements, important scientific prizes or competitive excellence funding such as Alexander von Humboldt Professorships or ERC Advanced Investigator Grants.
The content of the funding is a grant of €150,000 per year over a period of 4 years, as well as integration into the Lamarr network.

Each university may submit a maximum of two applications. We therefore ask you to contact if you are interested and to submit an expression of interest by August 30th, 2022.

Santander-Mobility Fund: Funding of international and national Research Visits

Excellent students can apply for grants for international and national research visits from the Santander Mobility Fund.

Student Research Projects

The Rectorate of the University of Münster allocates 50,000 euros a year to support student research projects.
The current submission deadline for a first application draft ends on 14 September 2022.

WWU Idea Lab: Topical Programs

The WWU-internal funding line "Topical Programs" has changed the application process to a rolling call, i.e. proposals can be submitted at any time. Furthermore, in addition to workshops, other formats and concepts are now eligible for funding.

EU Experts

The European Union Institutions appoint external experts to assist in the evaluation of grant applications, projects and tenders, and to provide opinions and advice in specific cases. There is an expense allowance for the activity. If you are already registered in the database, please update the information in your profile.

"Expression of Interest" for participating in Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

With the MSCA Matchmaker for Postdoctoral Fellowships and Doctoral Networks, KoWi offers German institutions a platform to express their interest in participating in these Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The MSCA Matchmaker will support institutions in finding fellows or suitable project partners by providing a template for an "Expression of Interest" (EoI), which will be published on the KoWi website.

The NWO (Dutch Research Council) calls for proposals for short, exploratory, cross-border and public-private projects between Germany and the Netherlands in the field of Electrochemical Conversion and Materials (electrolysis, electro synthesis and electro conversion, materials and catalysis, engineering & manufacturing of cell equipment, and system design and system integration).

Funding is available for both, basic research and application projects with a duration of 12-18 months and a project volume of 90,000 - 270,000 €. Further Information here.


The Heinrich Hertz Foundation [de] promotes academic exchange by awarding scholarships for international research stays. Eligible for a Heinrich Hertz scholarship are scientists working in North Rhine-Westphalia and planning a research project abroad, and scientists working abroad and planning a research project in North Rhine-Westphalia. Submission is possible at any time.


The Hans Böckler Foundation has been awarding the Maria Weber Grant since 2018. The target group are outstanding scientists from all disciplines. Applicants can apply for a substitute for up to 12 months who will take on parts of the teaching tasks in order to gain freedom for their research. For the teaching buyout, funds to pay the partial representation of up to € 40,000 (flat rate € 20,000 per semester) are granted.
