Start of the inter- and transdisciplinary research project BIOCIVIS

The inter- and transdisciplinary research project "BIOCIVIS", led by Prof. Doris Fuchs (Institute for Political Science, WWU Münster) and Prof. Bodo Philipp (Institute for Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology, WWU Münster), starts on November 1st 2019.

The research project is dedicated to the question of how participatory formats can contribute to securing the benefits of bioeconomic technologies for the society while strengthening democratic participation at the same time. The aim of the project is to develop and test participatory formats that ensure the sustainability benefit of microbiological biotechnology procedures as well as society’s participation in them in inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation. To this end, close cooperation between political scientists and biologists of WWU Münster and the integration of microbial biotechnology companies, civil society actors and citizens in multi-stage participation processes will be pursued.

The research project BIOCIVIS (funding code 031B0780) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research during the three-year project period (November 2019 - October 2022) within the framework of the concept "Bioökonomie als gesellschaftlicher Wandel".
