Appeal in trade journal: Over 11,000 researchers warn of climate emergency
A few weeks before the UN climate summit, the journal published a contribution, supported by over 11,000 researchers, warning of the consequences of climate change and the lack of consequences. "From the available data it becomes clear that a climatic emergency comes on us, writes the scientists. The supporters include 871 researchers from German universities and institutes, including ZIN spokeswoman Prof'in Doris Fuchs.
To the steps recommended by the scientists around the climatic change to fight belong thereby the receipt of forests as CO²-storage, the conversion of the nutrition to to a large extent vegetarian food, as well as the reduction of the population growth.
Also this week an article of the US-American scientific organization "Universal Ecological Fund" was published, which takes into account the national reduction goals of greenhouse gases promised in the context of the Paris climate agreement. This comes to the result that only about one quarter of the 187 submitted plans is sufficient for the reaching of the goals of the agreement. Only the plans of the EU states and 7 other nations are aimed at reducing 40% of emissions by 2030.
